Soon after Jose Mourinho’s press conference as a Manchester United manager, it was clear that the 53-year-old Portuguese gaffer is looking to sign his fourth and final player of the summer transfer window. Many-many names have been linked with the Devils in recent dates, including his former player like Willian, who recently signed a new contract with the club, Nemanja Matic and even Cesc Fabregas.
So far, the Portuguese have completed the signing of the former Villrreal defender Eric Bailly to give Smalling a well-deserved company, Zlatan Ibrahimovic to bring back the scoring record and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to create a different dimension in the current squad. And now, almost every English media is reporting that the Devils are preparing a massive bid to sign their former academy player Paul Pogba from Juventus.
Pobga joined the Manchester United’s youth academy and the little Frenchman started to feature in every game for the team’s under-18 side. Pogba was able to make only 7 senior appearances and after failing to secure first team opportunities, the Frenchman decided to move to Juventus. In his very first season with the Old Lady, he made 37 appearances in all competition and eventually became the first team member for the side.
He recently concluded his fourth season with the Turin based club and has made 178 appearances, scoring 34 goals. Now with Mourinho at the helm, it is understood that the Devils are now ready to bring Pogba back to the Theatre of Dreams and if the reports are to be believed, then the Devils will pay a humungous amount of €120m for the player.
Let’s talk about what this 23-year-old French midfielder will bring at Old Trafford:
-
Sheer Quality in midfield-
There is no doubt that Pogba is one of the best youngsters in the sport and any team would love to have him on their side. What Pobga brings is the quality to control the game from the midfield, which Manchester United right at this very moment lacks. The youngster can operate the game from various positions and this will serve as an advantage for the team.
He will most probably be lining up with Carrick or Schneiderlin, who will be defending the back line and hence, Pogba will have all the liberty to drive the team forward. In short, he could the Cesc Fabregas for Mourinho. The Frenchman not only supports the attack, he also contributes himself in defence. Though United will need to crack the bank to buy Pogba, the player is worth every penny and can be a long term option for the team.
-
Speed-
What Pogba is majorly known for is his speed and his on the ball techniques and due to these abilities, the Frenchman is capable of driving himself forward through midfield.
Standing at 6ft 3in, the Frenchman possesses a long and strong leg that allows him to sprint in the space. Talking about Manchester United’s situation, we honestly think that there is no such player, who possesses a blistering pace besides Martial.
-
Goals-
Pogba do not have a great scoring record, but being a central midfielder, he has a pretty good stat. Talking about last season, the Frenchman scored 8 goals in Serie A and 10 in all competitions. But besides scoring them, he possesses the ability to create some threatening chances (he bagged 12 assists last season) and with the players like Martial, Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan, goals are surely going to come.
While United was under Louis van Gaal last season, they were heavily criticized for not scoring the goals. Somehow they managed to win the games, but the margin was not very convincing and with Jose at the side, the entire phase is expected to take a U-turn and we feel that Pogba can play a big part in it.
