Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho have their names in the history as one the best football managers. The former one being the Manchester United living legend and one of the best known personality in the football world and the latter being the new manager of Manchester United, who has also won tons of major trophies in different countries as a manager.
Their success just shows the level they are at. Especially, Sir Alex Ferguson, who has retired but has left the bar so high that it is practically impossible for any other manager to achieve it in the Premier League.
While these two are often compared, their relation is that of good friends. They both respect each other and back each other.
Mourinho’s job as the new United manager was backed up heavily by Sir Alex, even though his style of managing the team is quite different from the former Scottish boss.
-
Style of Play-
Sir Alex never really cared about the ball possession until the team was up and winning. His aggression on the sidelines boosted and pressured the players to play exactly as their boss suggested. His team was always ready to attack and left no chance behind to do a counter attack on the opposition. Meanwhile, Mourinho is certainly the calm one. And so is the way his Chelsea side played under him. Mourinho’s style of play is that of keeping the ball and guarding the goal. Defensive Ball possession for Mourinho has always seemed to be the highest priority of all.
-
Spendings-
Jose Mourinho likes to spend big and on world-class players. It is very rare that the Portuguese coach approaches a less-known player. He has also been criticized as a possible failure without big spendings.
Sir Alex on the other hand, never was interested in spending much on new players. He respected and appreciated young talent always. For him, no player was bigger than the club or any of his teammates. His ideology was opposite to Mourinho’s in this case.
-
Versatility in team-
Even though Sir Alex won trophies and was an overall success as a manager, Mourinho has one spell to cast on his team. That is the tactical versatility of his teams. In home games, Jose likes to play with all guns blazing while his team usually are good at adapting to defensive style when they are playing away to big teams. Sir Alex was always so strict and specific that the team never really got to play a different kind of football.
