Henrikh Mkhitaryan is all set to join Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund after he activated his release clause a few weeks back. The player was so desperate to join us that he has apparently agreed to pay a part of his transfer fees himself, and that speaks volumes about his eagerness to play for us. He is primarily an attacking midfielder, but can also slot in as a wide forward. His partnership with Aubameyang was what fired Dortmund to a second-placed finish in the league last year, and here are 3 things you probably did not know about the 27-year-old Armenian:
1. He is a linguist
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has a penchant to learn new languages. As well as his mother tongue Armenian, he speaks French, Russian, English and Portuguese. English is the one he’d “like to improve most”, however, as he revealed to Panorama. His German has drastically improved.
2. He is Armenia’s poster boy
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is recognised as the best Armenian player currently. He was voted his country’s Footballer of the Year in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, as well as the CIS (Baltic and Commonwealth of Independent States) Footballer of the Year in 2012, making him the first Armenian player to win the award since the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991.
3. His father is his inspiration
His Father – His inspiration
In an exclusive interview to Bundesliga TV, he claimed that his father, who passed away due to a brain tumour, was his inspiration to be a professional footballer. He was quoted as saying,
“When I was a child I’d watch my father play and always wanted to follow him to training When he didn’t take me I’d stay by the door crying. I always wanted to become a footballer and I thank my parents, who helped me so much to realise this dream.”
