The waiting time is finally over — Manchester United have finally announced the signing of Zlatan Ibhrahimovic, or as many would joke, the Swede has announced signing for the English club. Either way, with all contractual obligations settled and medicals sorted, the former Milan forward has joined the club on a one year contract, after being signed as a free agent. Although he has been a journeyman centre forward all his life, Zlatan has never tasted English football and at 34 years of age, it may not be the best time to do so. However, United fans can be genuinely cheerful about this signing, and here are 3 reasons why:
1. It sends a clear message-
Despite missing out on Champions League football two times in the past 3 years, we have managed to sign the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Angel di Maria and now, Zlatan Ibhrahimovic. It’s a clear sign to everyone around that United have not lost their swagger a bit, and with the FA Cup from last season and with Jose Mourinho at the helm, one can expect the team to go all guns blazing from the 2016-17 campaign.
2. The arrogance is back-
Manchester United are champions, and champions have that air of arrogance about them. However, the last 3 years have been miserable for the champions, but now after signing two of world football’s most arrogant personalities, Jose Mourinho and Zlatan Ibhrahovic, we will be hoping that we can have that arrogance and swagger back on the pitch as well.
3. More attacking approach
After Fergie’s retirement, we had almost forgotten that United’s place in footballing history is based on our relentless urge to attack all the time. However, with the Portugese reportedly set to play a 4-3-3 with Zlatan, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial uptop, things are likely to change. If the trio clicks, they will give nightmares to defenders all over the country for sure!
