Selling Paul Pogba back in 2012 is widely regarded as one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s biggest mistakes in his 26 year old reign. The Frenchman, who was sold to Juventus and now, he has grown into one of the most exciting central midfielders in modern day football, and has been linked to a host of clubs including us. In his time at Turin, he has won 4 back to back league titles as well as the Coppa Italia a couple of times, and is now, apparently all set to move to a bigger challenge.
The players:
Real Madrid were initially in the race, but have apparently moved out of it after hearing the price tag. The same story happened with Barcelona as well. Twitter has been rife with stories of Mina Raoila, Pogba’s agent meeting United officials, and the club has supposedly authorised an 80 million pound move for the player. Back in 2015, the 23 year old had said this: ” ‘I’m impatient. It was the feeling I had. The coach (Sir Alex Ferguson) had faith in me, but didn’t put me on. He said that I was too young. He said “your time will come” but it never did. It didn’t come. But it does not mean I will speak ill of Manchester United. I love the club.”
Future:
While it is likely that Jose Mourinho will want a midfielder of Pogba’s promise, it is yet to be seen if the move materialises or not. Paris St. Germain are also in the race supposedly, but the player supposedly favours a move to Old Trafford more. However, there are issues regarding the transfer and agent fees, as well as his weekly wages, and all that will need to be sorted as soon as possible if he is to make his overdue return. With Pogba in the centre of the park, we are likely to see stability and control in the middle not seen since Paul Scholes’s retirement. Given the fact that he also scores stunning goals and lays off beautiful assists, it will be a blessing to have him back especially since the midfield is exactly what we need to work upon in this window to improve our chances to get the league next season.
