Julian Draxler Or Henrikh Mkhitaryan: Who Will Be A Better Fit For Manchester United?

published :

The media houses in Britain have been growing crazy lately, and today morning Sky Sports confirmed that Manchester United’s 26.3 million pound bid for Mkhitaryan has been accepted by Borussia Dortmund. There has been no official confirmation about this, but Mina Raoila, the Armenian’s agent, had revealed a few days back that talks are going on between the player and the club. Interestingly, the German newspaper Bild has also been reporting that United are interested in buying the highly rated Julian Draxler from Wolfsburg as well, and are apparently monitoring the German national footballer. But the real question is, do we need them both? Or will one do? Let’s analyse.

Need of the hour:

There is no doubt that ever since Fergie retired, United have lacked pace in the squad and that is something Jose Mourinho will like to correct, given how he loves to set up counterattacking teams. He already has the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in the squad, but they are still youngsters. We need a proven winner, who can cut in, set up goals or even score a few if the need arises. With Juan Mata and Maroune Fellaini certain to be sold, the player may also have to be able to play in midfield if the need so arises.

So whose profile suits best?

Mkhitaryan. The Dortmund forward has been in fine form in the last season, as he and Aubameyang set up a brilliant partnership upfront which saw the yellow and black brigade finish 2nd in the Bundesliga. Moreover, the Armenian can also play as a no. 10 incase the need arises, and with the right kind of movement around him, he can wreak havoc. Draxler is a wonderfully gifted player himself, but at 22 years old, he is still a work in progress. We already have talented youngsters waiting to grab their moment on the squad, and another expensive addition to that list would be a foolish thing to do. Mkhitaryan is very underrated outside Germany, and I believe the United board have done the right thing by procuring him so cheaply, especially given his age and experience.
