What’s The Future Of This English U-21 Star At Manchester United? A Loan Season Maybe?

published :

Manchester United players are currently either playing in the Euros and Copa America Centenario or spending their time away on holidays, and will be reporting back to Carrington in July before the pre season tour in China. However, among those reporting earliest, will be the team’s academy graduates, which especially includes Tyler Blackett, Ashley Fletcher and James Wilson. All three spent their last season on long, and performed impressively.

On Wilson:

The 20 year old spent his time at Brighton and Hove Albion last season, and scored 5 goals in 27 appearances. His last goal was a last-minute equaliser against Derby that kept Brighton in the race for automatic promotion only to be pipped by Middlesbrough on the final day. Despite selling both van Persie and Chicharito last summer, the Englishman was van Gaal’s third choice striker, after Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial.

The future:

According to The Sun, Wilsonwill hold talks with the new Man United boss next week but is expected to spend another season away from Old Trafford. With Marcus Rashford rising to such prominence in such a short span of time and with Zlatan Ibhrahomovic apparently all set to join the Devils, Wilson will obviously fall further in the pecking order and there is possibly a lot of truth in those reports.

Personal opinion:

Personally, I feel Wilson is a fantastic player, but he hasn’t matured enough to feature for us consistently. Also, he lacks that real cutting edge that separates the good players from the average ones. He needs to learn from Ashley Fletcher, another United star of his age, who has vowed to fight for his place in the club. If he does go however , I hope it’s for a full season and in a top division side in Italy or France. The exposure will do him a world of good, and if he excels there, he is certain to book a place in the playing XI. So Jose is completely right to send him out on a loan.
