With the arrival of Jose Mourinho, almost every Manchester United supporter is having a sense of optimism in their veins as they believe that the Portuguese manager would bring back the good old days at the Old Trafford.
Manchester United was touted as the most ‘Boring’ side in the Premier League last season and the reason being; their poor show in front of the goal. The side continuously lacked in the final third and ended up being the side with most possession, but goals win you games, not possession.
Well, just after Manchester United’s FA cup triumph, the Dutchman was sacked and after a few weeks, the Special One was appointed. The Dutchman was heavily criticized by the supporters, but he did give so few things to cheer and one of them was Anthony Martial.
He bought Anthony Martial last year and the Frenchman became the most expensive teenager of all time. Many criticized the move, but van Gaal had faith. In his debut match against Liverpool, the little Frenchman game a glimpse of what he possesses. He went on to become the first team player for the side and became the top scorer of the club in the last season.
Now, with Jose Mourinho has arrived, many-many players have now been linked with Manchester United and one of them is the Swiss international Breel Embolo. The 19-year-old Cameroon born Swiss attacker plays for Basel and after his wonderful performances in the last season, he was called up by his national team manager for Euro 2016.
Now, here we will be comparing both the attacker by their squad and will try to figure it out, who had a better season:
Talking about the appearances, Anthony Martial made 31 appearances in the league last term, while Embolo made 22 (in the league). Overall, including all the completion, the Frenchman made 49 appearances for the Devils and scored 17 goals. On the other hand, Embolo made 35 appearances for Basel and scored 12 goals.
Both the attackers are one of the most versatile players in the sport, and both are capable of playing as a lone forward as well as a winger. Both of them possess a blistering pace and are capable of haunting the players with a combination of pace and trickery.
What separates both is the level of concentration. The Old Trafford side witnessed how Martial gave a piece of brilliance and tracked all the way down to defend and contributed in attacks as well. Embolo, on the other hand, lacks that attribute. The major setback for Embolo is that he sometimes fails to cope with the pressure of the big games, especially like the Champions League nights, but that is mainly due to his lack of experience.
Martial, on the other hand, has all the experience of playing at the top level, and therefore, he always tries to give his best. Furthermore, Embolo is often criticized for being a selfish attacker and it is clearly visible from the stats as he bagged just a single assist in the entire campaign. On the other hand, Martial was praised for his playmaking techniques and his brilliant visionary passes.
Both the players are great at what they do, but both have their limitations. Buying Embolo will surely not be a bad option, but as stated earlier, he sometimes goes missing in the big matches and that could hurt the side at some point.
