Kostas Manolas

Manchester United held talks with AS Roma’s defender, Kostas Manolas’ associates two weeks ago ahead of a potential transfer move, according to reports in Italy. However, the Roma defender is calm over the transfer interest revolving around him.

The Greece international has been linked with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United in recent days.

“What I can say is that I have three years on my contract, although it all depends on Roma, they have the first and last word,” said Manolas.

“These problems involve my agent, I’m not worried.”

He added: “I’ll only go back to Greece for Olympiacos.”

The Greek footballer is also the nephew of the Greek football legend Stelios Manolas. Kostas joined AS Roma on 27th August 2014 for an estimated fee of €15 million. Since his arrival at the club, he has been an important player. Progressing from AEK Athens and then to Oplympiacos, and now at Roma, the centre-back has suddenly caught himself under the ongoing talks in the transfer window.

With Manchester United lacking a lot of talent and experience in their defensive line-up, they’re considering many defenders to sign, Manolas being one of them. Manchester United’s officials are doing everything they can to have the Greek international playing at Old Trafford next season.

The signing of Kostas Manolas is a very good decision by Jose Mourinho as the Roman centre-back has still more to offer and can do really well at United under the Portuguese coach’s guidance.

Manolas is the type of player who hardly ever lacks composure at the back, and makes tackles and interceptions which can decide the course of the game in his favour. This is basically the type of player the Red Devils need in the penalty area. And with speculations of Daley Blind exiting the club anytime soon rising day by day, a move for Kostas Manolas would be necessary as well as a delight.
