Manchester United Player Ratings vs Aston villa

After a joyful FA Cup match, Manchester United grabbed three points against Aston Villa in the English Premier League. Marcus Rashford’s strike in the first half off Valencia’s pass into the box put United ahead and the Villans didn’t seem competent to change that score.

Aston Villa are now relegated from the Barclays Premier League already with four games still remaining.

Van Gaal’s side were the dominating side as expected but did very little to deliver the result as the home fans expected.

David De Gea: 7

De Gea, like in many matches was again idle for a long time but got busy towards the end of the second half and did his job well.

Marcos Rojo: 5

One would think why Rojo is being selected again and again despite his below average performance. The Argentine did however, gave a good support in the attack many times against Aston Villa.

Dailey Blind: 7

Blind didn’t get much defending to do as a centre-back but did make many forward passes and got involved as a central midfielder in multiple occasions.

Chris Smalling: 7

With almost no threat from Villa, Smalling kept his cool till the moment he was in need and did a decent job.

Antonio Valencia: 6

A good replacement for the injured Fosu-Mensah, took advantage of his pace and strength. Valencia also assisted Rashford’s goal with a pretty accurate pass.

Morgan Schneiderlin: 7

The Frenchman did his business as usual. Making interceptions and regaining possession of the ball, and also defending well with his timed tackles.

Marouane Fellaini: 6

After an excellent game at Boleyn Ground against West Ham, the Belgian international carried almost the same form back at Old Trafford. He had a decent display, winning aerial duels and some key tackles.

Juan Mata: 6

Playing anywhere except the no.10 role, Mata faces problems due to lack of pace and strength. He did however manage to play some worthy balls from the wing against a much weaker opposition but also got caught in possession number of times.

Wayne Rooney: 7

Starting a game after 2 months, the skipper played well against the Villans. He continuously showed off his passing abilities, keeping United on the attack throughout the first half. Also had a part in Rashford’s goal as it was his notable through ball to Valencia which led up to the strike.

Memphis: 6

The dutch winger has been getting very rare starts because of his inconsistent display. Against Aston Villa, he tried taking advantage of their poor form to show his best game as he has on numerous occasions but still couldn’t get anywhere close to what he is capable of.

Marcus Rashford: 8

Scored yet another goal and won three important points for United. Rashford has been the best striker in the team since his debut. The youngster also linked well with Rooney. He could’ve scored more if more chances were created.

Substitutes:

Jesse Lingard: 5 (Rooney, 66’)

Anthony Martial: 4 (Rashford, 75’)

Fosu-Mensah: too late to make any effect (Mata, 89’)
