With Manchester United have struggled in front of the goal this season, many expected them to be rushing for a player like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, considering that he would be a free transfer.
However in a recent interview with Viasat, a Swedish TV channel, Louis Van Gaal has clearly hinted that he will not be looking to sign the Swede in the summer. The reason? The Dutchman thinks Zlatan is too old to join his squad. It makes sense since his gamble with Bastian Schweinsteiger has not really paid. It comes as a surprise to many United fans that Van Gaal is making transfer decisions given that there are strong news about Jose Mourinho taking over in the summer.
Manchester United are currently at the 5th position and are chasing the 4th place right behind City and Arsenal. Many thinks that the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic could help them next season but their current manager definitely thinks otherwise. It is evident from his conversation below.
“We need to improve our selection [squad], because when I took over we had six or seven players above 33 years old. I think it is unbelievable what he (Ibrahimovic) is doing. I saw the game against Manchester City, and it was a big disappointment for me because he should have scored two times at least. Paris Saint-Germain is Zlatan and that is fantastic. When a manager like me, who favors the team [above the individual], is saying that, that is a compliment for him. But he’s already 34 and I just spoke about the age [of the players] I let go.”
