Just 1 Goal In 18 Games: Should Manchester United Say ‘Goodbye’ To This Legendary Box-to-Box Star?

published :

When Manchester United bought Bastian Schweinsteiger for 12 million pounds last summer on a 3-year deal, United fans were overjoyed to see a World Cup winner and a midfield master join the club. The general notion was that the German Machine would bring great stability to the midfield and would be an excellent guide for the youngsters. Although we firmly believe that the former Bayern Munich player is yet to show his true class, however, the man has already shown us his worth. Despite being 31 years old and suffering a succession of injuries, yet the man has created 8 chances and scored 1 goal in his 18 appearances so far this season, with his best performance probably being the one against Liverpool at Old Trafford in September 2015.

Playing Style:

Bastian had been bought to provide support to the ageing Michael Carrick in central midfield, and the Bavarian has done that job pretty well so far. Despite taking some time to settle in, he has mostly put in assured performances whenever the team needed it. Although he isn’t the fastest guy on the pitch, but his passing and composure make him invaluable to any side. According to Squawka, he has an average passing accuracy of 86%, shot accuracy of 33% and has won 45% of his duels. Being physically commanding, Schweinsteiger rarely gets outmaneuvered by players, which is also an added bonus. However, for some weird reason, Louis van Gaal continues to ignore the German for Carrick and Fellaini, and that makes no sense whatsoever.

The future:

Bastian Schweinsteiger is here to stay, and the club must look to get the most out of him during his stay in Manchester. With Carrick leaving in the summer and Van Gaal to be supposedly replaced, one hopes we can see more of the legendary box-to-box player in the upcoming season.

  1. When are they going to sack lvg.fergie build a winning team and lvg sells them to buy players who are not good enough..then have to depend on the academy youths .

  2. Yes! Bastian was the core midfielder in United’s Champions league failure and was AWOL during the Emirates disaster and with the serial injuries he’s just not going to make a big enough difference at Old Trafford. Make some oney on him while they can.

PS Carrick is not certain to depart from what I’ve read. The board are delaying such decisions until after the managerial situation has been resolved. Furthermore with no natural successor in the playmaker role that Carrick fills United would be nuts to let him go yet especially when his limited partnership with Schneiderlin has been so successful (80% win.ratio including wins against City and Arsenal)
