With rumours going on about Mourinho replacing Van Gaal, speculations have been arising about what squad the Portuguese coach would prefer. Many players might be planning to leave if he arrives at the club, Juan Mata being one of them.
The Spanish midfielder was sold by Chelsea in the January Transfer Window in 2014. The then in charge of Chelsea was Jose Mourinho who stopped fancying Mata as his first choice even though Mata had been Chelsea’s Player of the Season twice (2011-12, 2012-13).
From being one of Chelsea’s best in his time at Stamford Bridge to being relatively more effective player at Manchester United, the Spaniard has been one of the best playmakers in the English Premier League since his arrival from Valencia in 2011.
Despite playing as a centre midfield or sometimes on the flanks, he has successfully able to score 24 goals for Manchester United in 89 appearances.
Mata is sure to have grudges against his former Chelsea boss for giving him limited play time in the 2013-14 season in spite of being a valuable asset to the Chelsea team. The Portuguese coach needed all his forward players to learn to defend too. Mata in particular is not all right when it comes to providing assistance to defenders. We have witnessed that in Manchester United as well.
Jose Mourinho is known to be very picky with his squad. We have all seen players like Iker Casillas and Kaka being benched loads of times at his time in Real Madrid because they just didn’t fit spot on in his team then.
There will be no doubt about the same being happening at Manchester United as well. With the backing of a lot of money which usually, Mourinho is provided in whichever club he has been managing, he won’t be having second thoughts of buying new players and transfer listing the ones which he doesn’t need even if it may be Mata.
The Spanish midfielder just didn’t fit in Mourinho’s style of play and there’s a big possibility that it will remain the same if the “Special One” is really going to be put in-charge after sacking Louis van Gaal.
