Name: Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Birthplace: Amsterdam

Position: Midfielder

Date of birth: January 2 1998

Timothy Fosu-Mensah is the latest Manchester United youth player to make his first team debut when named in the starting XI in the fixture against Watford.

Manchester United got the highly-rated youngster from Ajax. The youngster shows a great potential and can become a future star at the Manchester club. The 18-year-old is already stepping up to United’s U-21 already. On his debut,  Fosu-Mensah picked up a yellow card in the first-half, but showed the maturity to not get sent off and van Gaal was pleased with the defender’s awareness and

speed.

“Timothy saved us three times I think because of his speed and I was very pleased on the pitch”, Van Gaal said.

Profiting from all the injuries in the team this season, Fosu-Mensah is another player who has the chance to show is capability.

The 18-year-old Dutch player can play at any position in the defense. It is believed that it was the versatile defender’s pace that helped him keep the Hornets forwards quiet during the game.

Fosu-Mensah follows Dutch traditions of being technically excellent with the ball, as he has a good footballing brain on his shoulders. He has signed a 3-year contract with the club which can help him to show his potential, emerging as a big star man at this great club.

The Dutch youngster also has pace and the kind of attitude and passion that could see him emerge as a leader in the coming years.

United U21 boss Warren Joyce said: “He is a footballer. If you’re looking for footballers, you’ve got to look at what their real strengths are. He played at the back for us and, in the first game against Salford, he was arguably at fault with their three goals.

“He could stay there as he’s played there and in holding midfield for his country, the Netherlands, but you have to look at his strengths and what else he can offer the team.

“We’ve got to hone his strengths as well so he ultimately he can be selected for the first team.”

The fans will be delighted if the 18-year-old shines at the club following the club’s tradition of producing great legendary players.
