While most Manchester United fans may feel that the team had dropped 2 points after Diego Costa’s stoppage time equaliser at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, yet we beg to see it differently. The moral victory belonged to the Red Devils, and although we had to rely on David de Gea, who was sensational again, the team played with gusto and thoroughly tested Thibaut Courtois, the Blues’ goalkeeper.
However, after Lingard’s opener, we handed the London side control of the game, and following Memphis Depay’s mispass which could have made it 2-0, they equalised, and on the balance of things, deservedly so. However, there were many positives from even the draw, and here we list 3 of them:
1. THE PHILOSOPHY IS FINALLY KICKING IN
It took the team more than a season and half, but it seems it has finally got in sync with Louis van Gaal’s “philosophy”. We expected the boys to fare well following such comprehensive victories over Stoke and Derby, but the way we started must have taken even the most optimistic of fans by surprise. We came the closest when Thibaut Courtois just managed to tip a Martial curler over the sidepost, in the first half.
Passes were picked up faster, flanks were being used brilliantly and all in all, the side had a great tempo. Juan Mata picked up the Man of the Match award, but Rooney, Lingard, Carrick, Smalling all had good games.
