Ryan Giggs. A name synonymous with Manchester United over the last two decades. 963 appearances, 13 Premier League titles, 2 Champions Leagues, 4 FA Cups, 1 treble just to name some of his achievements. Giggs is arguably one of the greatest one club men and without doubt one of the finest Manchester United have produced. A graduate of the famous Class of 92, Giggsy reached the pinnacle when he was appointed player manager of United in 2014. With United struggling for consistency in the League, majority of the fans have been calling for the head of Louis Van Gaal. Giggs has been working as Van Gaal’s assistant manager and it is highly likely he will be appointed as his successor.
Louis Van Gaal was supposed to rebuild Manchester United and then hand over the reins to Giggs at the end of his contract. However, things have not gone exactly as planned for the Dutchman. There has been widespread speculation that Giggs could leave United being linked to clubs like Swansea in the past and he’s facing a big dilemma. If Van Gaal resigns or is sacked, Giggs will either be promoted or be number two again. But it’s very well possible he doesn’t want to be number two again.
The fans seem split as well as to what the Welshman’s future should be. While some are insisting he take over as the next Manchester United manager, a larger contingent believes that he doesn’t have the required experience yet. One of the things that he does have going for him is that the Manchester United way has been drilled into him. However, with Man City appointing Guardiola and Liverpool appointing Klopp, can United really afford to miss out on a world class manager such as Mourinho?
The answer is no. The club is in absolute disarray right now. Apart from abysmal performances, Van Gaal looks defeated at times. The board seems to be more concerned about sponsorship deals. The fact that their rivals are hiring two of the greatest managers around while United are persisting with the struggling Louis Van Gaal shows the direction in which the club is heading at the moment. Ryan Giggs might be a good choice for United, but only after he gets some experience.
That doesn’t mean he has to leave the club, maybe he can manage at the youth levels, but he needs experience being a manger. His caretaker spell at United during 2013-14 hardly counts as he was only in charge of four League games, of which they won two. The best thing to see though is at least he’s getting animated on the touchline, especially since Louis Van Gaal just refuses to show any emotion. The squad Giggs would inherit is also rather mediocre and definitely not a title winning squad. That would make it even harder for him. For his own sake it probably makes sense for him to leave the club and return with managerial experience under his belt.
I think Mourinho should be brought in for a 3 years term. Normally doesn’t stay much longer and Giggs stay as a no 2 and learn as much as he can from Mourinho and then take over . At least he will have a good base to start with. Hate to say it but Mourinho is a winner and with Pep and Klopp now in the premier league we need a fighter and that is Mourinho . This is not how I thought it would be under LVG but we almost need to start again in areas and this is where Mourinho would be good. With Pep and Klopp in the market for new players where would players like to go , Pep, Klopp or Giggs. But it you through Mourinho in there we may have some chance. I would also say not to many players will won’t to come to MU with LVG there. Things have changed and MU must act quickly as a club or else it will take along time to win the E PL again.
