After the game against Stoke City, where Manchester United played very unlike Louis Van Gaal’s style, the manager has confirmed that the three players whose positions will remain as it is are, Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Antony Martial.
Van Gaal confirmed,
“[Martial] likes to play in a striker’s position more than where he is now playing but when he plays like this I am not changing, “Same as Rooney, same as Mata, I am not changing.”
This will bode well for Rooney and Mata as both are comfortable in their striker and no. 10 position respectively. Martial however wishes to play as a striker but has been performing extraordinarily well as left forward and Louis Van Gaal wants to maintain the status Quo. Rooney’s form is coming back at the right time and using him as the striker makes perfect sense. Thus, Martial is pushed onto the left. However, the young Frenchman has recently said in an interview that he is more focused on helping the team currently and does not mind playing in positions other than striker.
Juan Mata has been the key playmaker in United against Stoke. He was involved in all three goals and will continue to play in no. 10 position. Fans will sure hope that this form continues as they were missing the fast attacking game from before David Moyes’ days.
