The winter transfer window has been opened, and although a few Premier League clubs have already engaged in a couple of transfers, Manchester United haven’t. It’s obvious that United won’t go in for a big name transfer and van Gaal has already mentioned something along those lines in a press conference a few weeks back.
However, there are issues in the squad which need to be fixed, and hence there is a requirement for stop gap solutions. A great way to get this is by signing players from smaller clubs, who can see this season through and make way for bigger stars in the summer. Here we list 3 such targets from smaller clubs who could be the real deal for us this season:
1. RIYAD MAHREZ, LEICESTER CITY
This Algerian winger has been on fire this season, netting in 13 goals so far. His and Jamie Vardy’s partnership upfront has been critical in propelling Leicester City to the position they are in now. Mahrez is pacey, has a box of tricks but is equally hardworking and disciplined. The Red Devils could really do with someone of his ability and form right now, with Mata consistently disappointing and Memphis Depay showing inconsistency. However, he wont come cheap, since several Premier League clubs have been eyeing this talented wideman for a long time now.
