The game remains in our memory as a personal favourite and the manner in which we sealed the game. Juan Mata scored an outstanding brace with the second one being an outrageous back volley, and though Daniel Sturridge got one back for them, it wasn’t enough. However, the match will be remembered for the manner in which the Kop captain Steven Gerrard, making his last appearance in the NorthWestern derby was sent off after a stamp on Ander Herrera, only 45 seconds after coming on in the 2nd half interval. United fans went home singing Juanfield, while the Scousers hung their head in shame.
