An enthralling game between Manchester United and Newcastle United ended in a 3-3 draw at St. James’ Park. A controversial penalty was coolly converted by Wayne Rooney before more brilliant play from the skipper allowed Lingard to put the Red Devils 2-0 up. However, yet again they failed to take their chances. Lingard missed a massive chance at 2-1 to restore United’s two goal cushion. Marouane Fellaini starting in defensive midfield missed yet another sitter that would have sealed the game for United in 3-2.
Memphis Depay once again put in an impressive cameo from the bench. It was Chris Smalling, one of United’s players of the season who had a shocking game, completely losing his man for the first goal. He wrestled Mitrovic to the ground to concede a penalty for Newcastle’s second before deflecting Dummet’s stoppage time equalizer into the back of the net.
Here are four things we learnt from the match:
What is Marouane Fellaini’s role?
Although he had a decent first half being a nuisance at times for Newcastle, he doesn’t provide much cover. An absolutely weak defensive header saw him assisting Wijnaldum for Newcastle’s first goal. Playing up the pitch, his finishing is pathetic as he missed another sitter that cost United again. Another problem is that he is very rash. He had committed 3 fouls in less than 20 minutes. He commits silly fouls just like the one he committed to pick up a yellow card last night. That means he’s under even more pressure as he’s in danger of getting sent off.
