Chelsea and Manchester United faced each other at Old Trafford in a battle that saw two ailing giants of English football to try and heal their misery. The game, dubbed on social media as ” El Boringo”, was expected to be a dull and drab affair, as the name suggested.
In the past decade, we have had outstanding football matches between these two clubs, everyone knew this one was never gonna live up to that potential. However, much to the surprise of many, the game did have its moments, with both Mata and Martial hitting the framework of the goal, Terry, Willian and Hazard drawing fantastic saves from De Gea while Ander Herrera saw his shot tipped off the line by Courtois. Although it ended 0-0 and the debate rages about van Gaal’s future at the hotseat, yet the players did try their best. Here we pick the 3 talking points from the game:
1. WILL VAN GAAL STAY OR Leave?
One of the most talked about points before the game was whether van Gaal would continue being the United manager beyond it, and what would be his approach to the game. There are rumours that Sir Alex visited the dressing room before the match, and that has led to more and more conspiracies about the Dutchman’s future. Most think that he will resign sometime before the next game at home to Swansea, but the jury is still out on that. However, what was surprisingly pleasant to see was the drive the team had, especially for the first 30 odd minutes. Chelsea were caught on the backfoot, and it was pure bad luck that United didn’t go 2-0 up by then. Too little too late, perhaps?
