Louis van Gaal has defended his decision to loan out youngster James Wilson to Championship side Brighton, who currently sit in the second spot in the Skybet championship. Van Gaal believes that Wilson will not be afforded a good mount of playing time at Old Trafford and a move away could help the young striker’s career.
The club might be faced with an issue in the short run as they currently have only two recognised strikers on their books. But Van Gaal maintained that the move was in the best interest of all the parties involved.
“I have not always chosen him in the selection, and I think for him it’s better to play at his age than sit on the bench or play in the second squad,” Van Gaal said.
“In the short term, maybe it’s not so good for Manchester United, but in the long term it is better. It is part of the development of a player.
“We believe in him and when we need him we can call him back.”
The 19 year old striker has only featured 25 times for United since the last season and the move to the Seagulls would improve his playing time and help with his development. Additionally, unlike United where every player is under immense scrutiny, Wilson will be afforded some space to develop his skills. The Pacey striker will need to take every opportunity provided to him in order to become the side’s No-9.
