Manchester United finally managed a win over CSKA Moscow last night in the Champions League last night, and Wayne Rooney also managed to end his 400 minute plus draught. Here are 3 things we learnt from the game:
1. Jesse Lingard Is A Real Deal
Jesse Lingard has turned out into a real gem for United so far, and that fact has further established last night as he put in yet another stunning performance last night. His energy and skill was brilliant to say the least, and he provided a new dimension to United’s attack. United have an outstanding record of producing real talent, and Lingard looks set to continue that trend. He also set up Rooney’s goal last night, and his stats read: 88% pass accuracy, 12 take-ons, attempted 5 crosses, took 4 shots and has 1 Assist. Also, he won the man of the match award last night, and quite deservedly.
2. Martial becomes a crowd favorite at Old Trafford
When Anthony Martial was substituted last night, the crowd booed the move. It is probably the first time in United’s history that the Old Trafford faithful protested against taking off a 19-year-old, and it just goes to show what an incredible effect the Frenchman has had at the club. Whether he plays as the lone man upfront or on the left wing, Martial has impressed one and all by his composure and skill.
3. Chris Smalling is a Beast
Smalling has grown immensely since last night and has finally started repaying the trust Van Gaal showed in him since the start. Last night, he further showed his class by putting in another stellar performance, and except the odd chances and the one good chance Doumbia had, CSKA hardly looked threatening. Smalling’s stats for the season further sealed this fact: Chris Smalling this season so far: 89 clearances, 39 aerial duels won, 31 interceptions and 25 tackles won.
