Predicted Manchester United Lineup vs CSKA

Martial

Manchester United play CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Champions League at Old Trafford on Tuesday night. United currently sit second in a very tight Group B. They have 4 points from their 3 games, 2 points behind group leaders Wolfsburg. A win against CSKA is a must for United to move one step closer to the Round of 16. United come into this encounter having failed to score in their last three matches, the first time since 2005. They failed to impress in a goalless draw at Crystal Palace at the weekend. The form of skipper Wayne Rooney is a massive worry. Van Gaal stated after the game he didn’t know what Martial’s main position is but everyone can see it’s through the middle. United have no new injury concerns for this one. Antonio Valencia is doubtful after suffering an injury against Man City.  Memphis was not part of the squad to face Palace as he apparently picked up a knock in the League cup exit versus Middlesbrough however, he has trained today.

Predicted Line-up

David De Gea- No doubt over who should start in goal.

Matteo Darmian- Darmian needs to really pick up his performances. He struggled against Wilfried Zaha at the weekend and had to be replaced by Young. He should start with Valencia’s injury however, don’t be shocked if LVG decides to play Young here. He did a great job after came on at Selhurst Park.

Chris Smalling- Smalling has been consistently solid at the back and will start for United.

Daley Blind- The Dutchman did a good job in the absence of Phil Jones and there isn’t much reason to replace him.

Marcos Rojo- Rojo has done well in the left full-back position. He did really well to shut down Zaha in the first half vs Palace though Bolasie did get the better of him a couple of times in the second half. He should keep his place.

Morgan Schneiderlin- The Frenchman has done a good job in recent times and should keep his place.

Bastian Schweinsteiger- He’s done well to keep Michael Carrick out of the team. He should start though I highly doubt he will last the distance.

Juan Mata- Mata has had a quiet few performances however he can make things happen and he should start on the right-hand side for United.

Ander Herrera- Herrera has done a good job playing in a number 10 role though he was subdued at the weekend. He’s definitely done more than Rooney and deserves to keep his place in the side.

Wayne Rooney- Most supporters have been calling for him to be dropped however I don’t think that will happen. I do think though it’s possible he might play on the left to accommodate Martial through the middle like they ended against Palace at the weekend.

Anthony Martial- Martial is the most threatening player and there’s no doubt he will start. Where he will play is a mystery and for the sake of United, I hope it’s in the number 9 position.
