Manchester United And Tottenham Battle For Signature of ‘New Ronaldo’: Would He Have The Necessary Impact?

Big clubs have always looked to attract top players for top dollar, but nowadays there is more of an emphasis on which club has the next big thing on their books.

The Daily Star report that Premier League duo Manchester United and Tottenham are both interested in the young Dutch winger Memphis Depay.

The 20 year-old wideman has been likened to former Old Trafford favourite and current galactico Ronaldo because of his speed, dribbling ability and spectacular long range strikes.

Depay has enjoyed his most successful season personally, despite PSV Eindhoven’s struggles in the Eredivisie, finishing fourth and narrowly beating Heerenveen to the last Europa League spot.

He scored an impressive twelve league goals and contributed seven assists from his 86 chances created for his teammates. (Squawka)

His stellar performances at club level have seen him included in Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands World Cup who have performed brilliantly, winning three from three.

Depay was not involved in the Netherlands’ opening game demolition of reigning champions Spain but has made an impact from the bench against Australia and Chile, scoring two goals and giving an assist. (Squawka)

It seems that the 20 year-old is destined for bigger things and seems to be taking advantage of the shop window effect that the World Cup has on club football.

It is believed that PSV are willing to part with their prizes asset for around £17 million, but if Depay continues his great form that fee could certainly rise.

However, I think Depay is not the player that is needed for the current situation at United. If Young and Nani both leave, that would leave only Januzaj as the only out and out left-sided winger.

It would be a lot of pressure to put on his shoulders and to be expected to make an instant impact in the Premier League.
