Having missing the majority of the season after tearing ligaments in his knee back in November, it seems Carlo Ancelotti doesn’t see the German international in his plans next season.
The Daily Express reports that Premier League duo Manchester United and Arsenal are interested in Real Madrid’s defensive midfielder Sami Khedira.
Despite missing almost seven months recovering from his knee injury, the former Stuttgart man played in the Champions League final and proved fit enough for Joachim Löw’s starting eleven.
The German was one of the first names on the teamsheet under Jose Mourinho and featured in all but two of Madrid’s 13 league games before his injury against Almeria.
During his lengthy time on the sidelines, Ancelotti had to adjust his team and replaced the German by converting Angel Di Maria from a winger to a high energy midfielder.
The newly formed trio of Modric, Alonso and Di Maria proved a perfect blend and it also meant Gareth Bale would start in the front three on the right wing.
Ancelotti’s side are very well balanced and he will not want to disrupt that next season by trying to re-introduce Khedira into the midfield.
Arsenal are believed to be monitoring the situation but surely Manchester United will make a move, considering Khedira’s experience, quality and availability.
New manager Louis van Gaal is looking to completely re-vamp United’s midfield and add players with a higher technical ability. Sami Khedira would offer the physical presence that all top teams need in midfield.
However, every time a top quality player from one of Europe’s big clubs in linked with United the same argument arises.
Would Sami Khedira, at 27 and top international leave a club who has just won the Champions League to join a club in transition and with no European football? I am not so sure.
