Louis van Gaal will bring a more fluid and attractive style of play, which could lead to an exodus of players from the squad, whom the Dutchman deems not good enough.
According to the Daily Mirror the first player that could be shown the door is midfielder Tom Cleverley, who could be included in a deal for Arsenal Captain Thomas Vermaelen.
Cleverley who has been at the club since he was 12 years-old and worked his way up the teams is seen by many fans as just not good enough for Manchester United.
The 24 year-old made 22 league appearances last season, making little impact with one goal and providing zero assists. (Squawka)
It’s rumoured that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is an admirer of the United academy graduate, which could see Cleverley used in a swap-deal.
This would certainly kill two birds with one stone for Louis van Gaal, bring in a top quality, Premier League proven defender and get rid of an average technical player.
Manchester United face competition for the Belgian’s signature from Rafael Benitez’ Napoli side, who can offer Champions League football next season.
But United will hope that using Cleverley as part of the deal may not only peak Arsenal’s interest, but perhaps bring the price down.
Not only that but Vermaelen served as Robin van Persie’s vice-Captain during his time at the Emirates, and the relationship between the two could also work in United’s favour.
