With transfer stories flying about and all the defenders being linked with moves to Old Trafford, it would seem van Gaal doesn’t have much faith in the current centre-backs.
The Daily Mirror reports that Louis van Gaal wants to bring Feyenoord defender Bruno Martins Indi with him to Manchester after the World Cup and pair him with Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels.
Following the exits of both club Captain Nemanja Vidic and stalwart Rio Ferdinand, there is a large hole in the centre of Manchester United’s starting line-up.
Although he would not be seen as a top signing, it’s clear that van Gaal rates Martins Indi very highly, as he featured constantly in the qualifiers.
The 22 year-old defender is versatile, he can play both centre and left back when needed, and has played both this season for Feyenoord.
For Manchester United he is most certainly, affordable and I am sure that his national coach could persuade him but even though it’s United asking, should he leave?
Feyenoord is his boyhood club, he has made over 100 appearances already and after a fantastic season in the Eredivisie they have Champions League football next season.
Would he leave all that for the chance to play in the Premier League and be a part of van Gaal’s rejuvenation at United? The answer is probably yes.
As for Hummels, regardless of how many times he is linked with United or how many times he is deemed their number one target, I really can’t see him leaving Dortmund this summer.
Jurgen Klopp has entered a new phase of his project at the Westfalenstadion and I believe they will give Bayern Munich a better fight for the Bundesliga next season.
