Manchester Executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward has said that club legend Paul Scholes will be offered a coaching role and he would like to discuss his future involvement.
The Daily Express reports that United would want Scholes involved in a coaching role, which is likely to be with the youth teams or reserves.
If things go well and Scholes shows promise, then I would assume that his first position would be a stepping stone to bigger and better things.
Manchester United have an opportunity with this ‘Class of 92’, an opportunity to emulate the work of Barcelona, in promoting from within and maintaining a club identity and ethos.
New Barcelona boss Luis Enrique, Tito Vilanova and Pep Guardiola all had positions as youth and reserve team coaches before they were given the job of manager at the Camp Nou.
Wheels could be set in motion this summer which could see Manchester United set up a new long term managerial conveyor belt, which could last up to two decades.
Louis van Gaal is the first Manchester United manager from outside of the British Isles, which is mostly because of tradition.
Manchester United have always given British managers a chance, (perhaps David Moyes excluded), instead of looking for the big European names.
I believe plans were set in place after the depart of Moyes, that a big, experienced managerial name would come in like a van Gaal or Ancelotti.
In order to re-establish the club after a terrible year but also for a certain ‘Fergie Fledgling’ to learn from another top quality manager. Ryan Giggs.
Mark my words, at 63, Louis van Gaal is not United’s future. It is the club legends working their way up the ladder.
