Manchester United Monitoring Two Netherlands Internationals: Would They Improve United’s Defence?

published :

Incoming manager Louis van Gaal has told the club that the defence and the midfield are the two areas that need strengthening and should take priority over attacking players.

The Daily Mail reports that the club are currently watching and building reports on certain members of van Gaal’s Netherlands side.

The two names mentioned are right-back Daryl Janmaat and centre/left back Bruno Martins Indi. The defensive duo both play for Dutch Eredivisie runners up Feyenoord.

Martins Indi is primarily a central defender but has the ability to play left-back, at 6ft1 he offers a physical presence in the full-back position when he plays it.

Squawka shows that from left-back this season he has won 60% of his tackles and has an impressive 93% success rate in take-ons against his opponent.

As for Janmaat, he is a right-back with a keenness for coming forward with the ball and causing problems with well-placed crosses. The statistics show he registered two goals and five assists, which is a good return for a defender.

There is no doubt that the two have enjoyed a successful year in the Dutch Eredivisie, in which they achieved Champions League football for next season.

But would they be an improvement on United’s current defenders?

For me only Janmaat would. Right-back has been a difficult position for United since Sky pundit Gary Neville’s retirement and for me when Rafael is asked questions of defensively, he fails to impress.
