It seems Louis van Gaal sees the Bundesliga as his market for strengthening this United side, with a deal for Kroos agreed he is now linked with Bayern’s Arjen Robben.
Reports this morning suggest that Manchester United and Bayern have agreed a deal for Toni Kroos, which is thought to be in the region of £20 million.
But it is believed that van Gaal is not through plundering his former team, with his sights set on another one of his Netherlands players, Arjen Robben.
Both Kroos and Robben worked under van Gaal when he was Bayern Munich manager from 2009-2011. In fact Robben was one of van Gaal’s first signings.
Robben has had another impressive season in the Bundesliga, with Bayern sweeping all before them. Squawka shows he contributed 11 goals and four assists.
You can see why this move would appeal to van Gaal, another one of his men and another Dutchman to help install his style of play.
And for Robben, a move to Old Trafford would certainly appeal to his ego. At Bayern he is a great player in a team of great players, whereas at United, he would be a star.
However, he has just signed a three year deal with Bayern and as tempting as working with van Gaal and at United is, the reality is no European football and a major project.
At 30 years old, would Robben be willing to leave a big salary with one of the best teams in Europe, managed by one of the best coaches?
