Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos has only one year remaining on his contract and it seems the midfielder has his eyes on a move to Old Trafford in the summer.
The Daily Express reports that Manchester United have agreed a deal in principle with the Bundesliga Champions, who are keen to sell and avoid Kroos running his contract down and leaving.
The stats from Squawka on Kroos show two things. Although he made 29 appearances for the Bavarians, he completed a full game on only 11 occasions.
But impressively, in a team which dominated the league in possession, Kroos had the joint highest pass accuracy. A staggering 92% of his 1966 passes found their target.
As we know, van Gaal is a student of the Dutch school of ‘Totaalvoetbal’, and he brings with him his 4-3-3 formation which he used at Ajax from 1991-1997.
In this formation one of the midfield trio plays in a creative number 10 role behind the front line, while the other two are known as ‘controllers’, who regulate ball retention and act as pivots.
We could see Michael Carrick in one of these positions, but Kroos would be the other. If Rooney was in the number 10 position he would be the creative hub of the team but Kroos would be its heart.
Aside from his ability to distribute the ball, Kroos can certainly strike it. Many of his goals are powerfully struck and accurately placed so that keepers have no chance. Take a look!
