New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal will look to Dutch midfielder Jordy Clasie to help him impose his style of play at Old Trafford. Clasie is a good option.
Reports suggest that van Gaal will look to bring the 22 year-old central midfielder with him to Manchester after their international duty with the Netherlands in Brazil.
Clasie was dubbed the ‘Dutch Xavi’ because of his diminutive stature, excellent passing and his ability to find gaps in opposition defences.
He was ever-present this season making 32 appearances, as he helped Feyenoord to a second place finish in the league behind winners Ajax and to Champions League football for next season.
According to Squawka, Clasie has proved his passing ability once again this season, racking up seven assists and making 30 key passes for teammates.
There is no doubting Manchester United’s firepower upfront when Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney are both fit, but it is their service from midfield which has been lacking.
United have always had two attacking wingers with central midfielders that can retain the ball and pick out their forward men. The addition of Clasie would certainly improve the latter.
In my opinion, the current crop of United midfielders aren’t to the technical level that van Gaal will be used to and in truth, that United fans are used to.
Here’s Robin van Persie’s equalizer vs Ecuador, what a fantastic finish, but take a look at the Scholes-esque pass from Clasie to set it up.
