Manchester United again lost at home last night, but this one had more of a meaningful consequence. Manchester City were the side who took the three points, and they did it in some style, winning 3-0. Here are three United players who should be dropped after their poor display last night.
1) Tom Cleverley
The midfielder was deployed on the right flank for the game and unsurprisingly struggled to get into the action. Even in his natural position in the middle of the pitch he doesn’t make much of an impact on the game, but on the right he was even worse.
When he went forward he looked out of ideas, and when he was forced to track back he looked rash in the tackle. For me he needs to sit out the rest of the season and be given the boot in the summer.
2) Rio Ferdinand
Ferdinand is another player who needs to go. Although Moyes’ hands were tied with the centre-back pairing due to injuries, I thought that Michael Carrick should have dropped back and partnered Phil Jones as Ferdinand is slow, constantly out of position and if a player runs at him they can easily skip past him.
Ferdinand did not win one header and drifted too far up the field for my liking.
3) Juan Mata
It doesn’t matter how able a player is, if you are not using him correctly then it will have a negative impact on both him and his side. Yesterday Mata had two shots on goal, neither of which hit the target, and misplaced four of his five crosses. He won just one tackle and failed to register a key pass.
the mata one is nonsense….he played well against west ham…he is a creative player…creative players need service and protection…under moyes big game paralysis he gets none….ronaldo would struggle under this regime…..the player getting all the plaudits at the moment danny welbeck only has one weapon hard graft….he creates nothing he seldom scores and yet everyone loves him….which sums up united these days…functional unadventurous and stale…build the team around mata in his correct position
You're as clueless as Moyes if you think Mata should be dropped. He was excellent for most of the first half but suffered from the same tactical bewilderment that the rest did in the second half.
