Come Sunday Robin van Persie wouldn’t have scored for exactly 4 weeks since we played and beat Everton 2-0 at home. His recent form is a bit of a weird one for me because since that game he has been firing complete blanks even though he has only played two lots of full 90 minutes both against Real Madrid.
He has also started our last two premier league games against QPR away and Norwich at home but he has come off in both of them. One through injury and another to see him through to the big game we had against Real Madrid in mid week. He also came off of the bench late on against Reading in our fifth round FA cup tie yet again with no goal.
I am slightly disappointed he hasn’t scored in his last 5 games and only scored once in February but I cannot be too upset with the man as he has been lethal infront of goal so far this season with 23 goals to his name and our leading scorer but I can’t help but feel by his standards that he will be disappointed by this mini drought of his.
We have Chelsea on Sunday and I am sure he will bounce back there just like the team after Tuesday with a goal or maybe even two to hopefully push himself further towards the 30 goal mark.
One thing is for sure he is still world class and our best player and if I was Chelsea I would be scared knowing he is hungry for goals and to end the drought especially with his record against them.
It is the business end of the season now and we have a quarter final on Sunday afternoon so every goal we score from now till the end of the season will be vital especially as quite a few of them will be coming from him.
Another reason for us to want him to get back to his firing best is so that Suarez doesn’t win the golden boot ahead of him an award which he won last season and seeing as we can’t win the treble this season it would be lovely for him to claim his own one of the League, FA cup and Top goalscorer award for the 2012/13 season.
Whether he scores or not there is one thing you cannot stop and that is the chant of ”Oh Robin van Persie” from our supporters.
Thanks for reading.
