Don’t Get Shirty With Shinji!

Shinji Kagawa is likely to bring a new wave of Asian fans Old Trafford-bound for the coming season after his switch from Borussia Dortmund, but don’t think he’s there to boost the club’s shirt sales.

There are always going to be comparisons made between Park Ji Sung and Kagawa, but the fact is the first Japanese player to ever sign for United is there on merit alone, and can really be a hit in the red half of Manchester.

That’s not to say Park wasn’t, as the South Korean finally proved himself after two or three seasons of scepticism in his early United career. However, Kagawa is a different proposition altogether. Park could break up the opponents’ attacking flow; Shinji Kagawa is a game changer.

Any player who plays half a season in the German Bundesliga and is still named in the league’s best eleven come the end of the campaign, is clearly a massive talent. He can provide killer passes, see things other players perhaps can’t, something United have clearly lacked in the past two seasons without one Paul Scholes.

Scholes is still one of the best players in the Premier League, but age is catching up on him, and it’s time for someone else to pick up the mantel from him, and Kagawa can do just that. He’s a confident young lad, not afraid of the pressure, never one to shy away when his team needs him, and another key attribute; the boy knows where the net is.

He may need a little time to settle into his new surroundings at The Theatre of Dreams, but this writer has the feeling Shinji Kagawa could be the one creating those dreams again come May.
