Over the last couple of years Gareth Bale has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, but the question is, do Manchester United actually need him?
We have supposedly been interested in him abit over the last couple of years and according to rumours lodged a bid of £20m for him a couple of years ago.
Spurs rejected that bid and we have seen the lad go on and develop himself quite a bit. He is pretty young and is constantly upping his game.
However I don’t think we need to buy him. Here are the reasons why:
1) Bale will be very expensive to get. I am guessing he’ll cost £30m+ easy. Spurs are hard bargainers and would want a lot of money for him. Given the supposed state of our finances, it’d be fiscally imprudent.
2) We’ve got Ashley Young. He is quick, crosses great and doesn’t look out of his depth playing for a big club like United. He is, in my opinion, good value for the £17m that we paid for him and he will do a good job for the next 5 years easy.
3) Bale is yet to show consistent performances. There is this tendancy for him to drift in and out of matches. We’ll have to invest in training and playing him (after paying through our noses for his services).
4) Our need of the hour is a playmaker, a central midfielder ala Wesley Sneijder or a Luka Modric or a Mario Gotze, not Bale. We could have signed him before but with Young coming in, I see no place for another winger, certainly not a £30m plus guy. We’ve got three brilliant wingers in Young, Nani and Antonio Valenica. They will do.
