The following is my take on Transfer Deadline Day as it happened from 1pm to 4.45pm:
1.00pm – Blimey! Everton finally have kicked into action as they appear very close to be signing Argentine striker Denis Stracqualursi from Tigres. The lad’s got a good scoring record in Argentina but could he be another Mauro Roselli? (Wigan fans will know who I’m on about here). This could be abit of a risk for David Moyes who strangely according to the rumour-mill is on the verge of selling Jermaine Beckford after only one year at the club.
1.20pm – Scott Dann is apparently now having a medical at Blackburn. Have to admit this is a surprising move indeed, but one that Steve ‘Yes Man’ Kean must be delighted by. After all his team needs freshening up and signing Dann is really quite a coup for them. In other news Rio’s brother Anton Ferdinand is on the verge of signing for QPR. Neil Warnock’s certainly being a busy boy today and clearly wants to beef up his side with Premier League experience.
1.45pm – Apparently after being knocked back by Joe Cole, Aston Villa have enquired about a move for Jermaine Jenas. There’s no doubt the former England player who has become somewhat stale at Spurs over the last 2 years would be a good acquisition for Alex McCleish whose side could do with more creativity and experience in the middle of the park.
2.00pm – Craig Bellamy who has been told he is free to leave Manchester City apparently is now a wanted-man with Stoke and former club Liverpool joining QPR in the hunt for the Welsh striker. He’d improve all three of those clubs and wouldn’t be a bad option for the Scousers even who look set to lose David N’gog to Bolton (not that he matters much to them anyway).
2.30pm – French side St Etienne have announced the deal to sign Leeds United winger Max Gradel. It’s a good move for the Ivory Coast international who starred in the Championship last season. Meanwhile Arsenal’s deal for Korean captain Park Cho-Young has been completed, not that news comes as a surprise.
2.45pm – Spurs have announced that they’ve signed Scott Parker. It’s a great deal for Harry Redknapp as his side clearly lack someone with ‘bite’ and ‘hunger’ in midfield. The question is though why wasn’t this transfer wrapped up weeks ago. Only ‘Arry can answer that one?
3.00pm – News concerning two African Premier League strikers. Apparently Yakubu who has never quite been the same player after that injury he suffered three summers ago, is on the verge of a move to Blackburn whilst Asamoah Gyan has handed in a transfer-request in at Sunderland. If that’s true Steve Bruce cannot be happy with that.
3.30pm – Arsenal’s move for Fenebache’s Brazilian defender Andre Santos has been completed and the move for German defender Per Metersaker’s close to being completed as well. That’s two good defensive signings for Wenger, but why oh why didn’t he sell Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri earlier so he could have brought players in two months ago? God only knows!
4.00pm – Florent Malouda is being linked with a move to the Emirates now, despite the fact he’s played in all three of Chelsea’s matches so far this season. I can’t for the life of me see this happen. One Blue who could be about to move to the Emirates is Yossi Benayoun who apparently will be leaving Chelsea today to join either Liverpool, Spurs (who both have tons of midfielders) or Arsenal. He’s a good player but he’s hardly Fabregas is he?
4.20pm – Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Shamrock Rovers defender Enda Stevens this coming January. Stevens will see out his time for the Dublin-based side by playing in their Europa League group matches which will certainly test him out before he arrives in the Midlands to finalise the deal in the New Year.
4.45pm – One of the forgotten men of White Hart Lane David Bentley could be on the move to West Ham on a loan deal. Clearly Redknapp doesn’t rate him, so expect this deal to go through shortly. One midfielder who has gone to Upton Park today has been Arsenal’s Henri Lansbury who came on at Old Trafford at the weekend. He joins West Ham on-loan for the season, adding more quality to Sam Allardyce’s team.
