Cleverley Called Up By Capello Into England Squad

Tom Cleverley has been called up into the England senior squad for the first time ahead of  Wednesday’s clash against World-Cup finalists Holland.

Cleverley who impressed in Manchester United’s Community Shield win yesterday over Manchester City has been called into the squad following the withdrawals of Jack Wilshere and Michael Carrick.

The news should come as great excitement to United fans as it gives Cleverley a great chance to prove his quality in a big game at the start of the new season and it’s a clear sign that Fabio Capello has taken note of the youngster’s form.

It shall be interesting to see if Cleverley does win his first England cap on Wednesday night, as it’s more than likely he may get an opportunity of the bench and given how the youngsters has played over the last year or this late call-up is nothing more than he deserves.

There’s no doubt that there are places up for grabs at the moment in the England squad and clearly younger players from the U21’s are being looked at closely – which they should be anyway as it’s vital younger players get selected if the time is right for them to do so.

We have all seen how quickly Wilshere has developed into an England regular and whilst it’s probably too soon to make comparisons with Arsenal’s talented midfielder, Cleverley certainly has the talent to make another impression at Wembley this week should he make an appearance, as United fans let’s hope he can do that.
