Roma’s talented striker Mirko Vucinic is being linked with a move to Manchester United according to his agent who claims preliminary talks have started to sign the Montenegro international.
Vucinic who has been playing in Italy for 11 seasons now, has been strongly linked with a move away from the Italian capital and has been heavily linked with Juventus over the past couple of months.
The forward’s agent Alessandro Lucci spoke with LaSignoraInGiallorosso yesterday and whilst admitting that a deal is a long way off spoke of United’s interest:
“It has only been a chat, in which no offers have been made nor was there an agreement sorted.
“The English club, however, really like Vucinic, but to see him with the shirt of the Red Devils, there is still work to do.”
Atletico Madrid are also rumoured to have shown an interest in the forward who has scored over 60 goals in his five seasons for Roma. It would be fair to say that Atletico in the wake of Sergio Aquero’s likely move to Manchester City would certainly need Vucinic more than us, as we already have 7 forwards in our squad at the moment.
Unless Dimiatar Berbatov is unexpectedly sold before the transfer window (which clearly will not be happening) then there’s really no reason why we would want Vucinic in the first place as he would bring more or less the qualities that Berba provides to our squad.
That’s not to say that Vucinic is not a good player because clearly he is, it’s just that we do not need him at the moment. Regardless of Berba, it would be harsh perhaps on the likes of Danny Welbeck and Federico Macheda if another striker came in as those two deserve to have their chance to challenge for a regular place in our squad.
Other teams in the Premier League such as Arsenal and Spurs could certainly do no worse than try and sign him as both have struggled to find a big powerful forward in the last couple of years who would be comfortable playing in Europe as well.
Vucinic based on his recent form would certainly be a better option over a course of a season than the likes of Nicklas Bendtner and Peter Crouch would as with all due respect to them, he has a far better all-round game.
