Manchester United could end up paying £70million for Sean Longstaff
The Metro claims that Manchester United could have signed Sean Longstaff for £20m in the summer.
The Newcastle midfielder impressed last season but his campaign was cut short after a cruciate knee ligament injury.
The Magpies went through an uncertain summer after Rafa Benitez left and the report adds that United wanted to seal the deal for Longstaff during this time.
However, United couldn’t finalise a move for the 21-year-old midfielder and the Daily Mail (h/t Metro) claims that the Red Devils could end up paying £70m for the Newcastle star next summer.
Steve Bruce has taken over the manager’s role at the Magpies, and it will be interesting to see how he does in the upcoming campaign.
A hit and miss summer for United
The Red Devils made one big move in signing Harry Maguire from Leicester City, who became the most expensive defender in the world (h/t Metro).
We also spent huge on signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace, and that should solve some of our defensive problems.
We could have done with a talented midfielder like Longstaff joining the ranks, and it seems that Ed Woodward’s delaying tactics will cost us in the next summer window (h/t Metro).

Losing Romelu Lukaku isn’t that big of a blow, however, we should have signed a replacement for the Belgian striker going into the new campaign.
