Manchester United are closing in on Barcelona youngster Nico Gonzalez, according to Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News). The report claims that the youngster will join the Red Devils once his contract at the Nou Camp comes to an end.
The 16-year-old midfielder is one of the highest-rated players from La Masia but negotiations regarding a new contract appear to have reached a standstill.
The report claims that we are leading the race to sign the player as Nico’s father Fran knows David Harrison, the head of our youth recruitment.
Harrison is apparently pleased with the progress made by the young Barcelona star and wants the 16-year-old to join the Premier League champions too.
Another star in the making?
United seem to be doing a lot of work when it comes to young players. For example, Tahith Chong is also expected to make a name for himself in the coming years.
Currently, there is a lot of competition in United’s youth team and to truly make an impact, Gonzalez must prove his potential day in and day out.
