Harry Maguire turned down massive offer from ‘this’ high-profile team in MLS

Harry Maguire joined Manchester United in 2019.

Sir David Beckham’s Inter Miami dangled significant financial incentives across the table, a lucrative American venture for Harry Maguire, entering the twilight of his career.

Few veteran players refuse that kind of opportunity, but Maguire rejected it entirely (as reported by the Sun), signing instead a one-year contract extension with Manchester United that keeps him at Old Trafford until June 2027, with an additional year option.

It is worth noting that Maguire accepted a wage reduction from his previous £190,000 per week to make this work.

The Michael Carrick factor?

Maguire’s resurrection coincides precisely with Michael Carrick’s January appointment. Under Ruben Amorim, his future looked bleak, as he wasn’t regularly starting games, especially because of injuries. However, the former Man United midfield icon’s arrival changed everything.

Since mid-January, Maguire has been ever-present, fundamental to United’s climb from sixth to third in the Premier League. He earned an England recall in March after 18 months away from international football, a testament to how thoroughly his form has transformed.

Having started every game under Carrick, Maguire will look to ensure that the Red Devils solidify their 3rd place in the PL table.

However, he will have to sit out for the Leeds United game after he was sent off before the International break in Man United’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. He was also charged by the FA for improper conduct during the same fixture.
