Manchester United are yet to start concrete negotiations with Borussia Dortmund for Karim Adeyemi
Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their efforts to reinforce Ruben Amorim’s front line, with transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting through GIVEMESPORT that the club is exploring the market for a forward capable of operating across multiple attacking roles.
United are looking for someone who is quick, sharp on the ball and adaptable, and all these fit the description of Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi. Although they have firmly placed his name on their watchlist, they have not held any formal discussions with either Dortmund or the player’s camp.
Adeyemi, who is under contract until June 2027, moved to Germany from Salzburg in 2022 and became a pacey threat on the break. Despite the German international’s favourable attributes, club officials are still considering other options and have not yet identified a primary candidate.

“Man United are looking at that kind of player, so a player who can play as a winger, as a number 10, let’s say behind the striker, and be electric, be skilful, be talented, be fast, as Karim Adeyemi is very fast.”
“So for sure, Man United are following several players with those skills, and Adeyemi is one of the best in Europe when it’s about this.”
“But as of today, if you ask me, are Manchester United negotiating with the agents of Adeyemi? Are Manchester United negotiating with Borussia Dortmund for a January transfer? From what I’m told, at this stage of the year, Man United have not started a concrete negotiation, a concrete discussion for Karim Adeyemi.”
United spent close to £200 million on attacking reinforcements during the summer to secure Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko, but the board is still looking at more signings.
Interestingly, although their 2026 strategy is likely to shift towards midfield, notably with Brighton’s Carlos Baleba still high on their list, the club still seems prepared to strengthen the team’s wing-play. Meanwhile, the Red Devils currently sit seventh in the Premier League and host Everton after the international break.
Adeyemi or Antoine Semenyo?
On the tactical side, while Adeyemi has long-term potential because of his breathtaking pace and potential to shine under Amorim, Antoine Semenyo probably fits what the system needs right now better. The Manchester United manager depends a lot on direct attacking and strong pressing from wide positions, which does match what the AFC Bournemouth winger already does well.
Semenyo already understands Premier League intensity, makes quick decisions on the break and has the physical attributes to make an instant impact. Adeyemi, although highly gifted, would likely need time to settle into English football and adjust to Amorim’s structure. Since United want someone who can make an instant impact and fit in quickly, the Ghana winger looks like the more practical option for their short-term ambitions.
