Former Manchester United defender Danny Simpson feels that Harry Kane would be open to joining the Red Devils
Manchester United have been linked with plenty of names in the transfer market as they are in a phase of transition. The club invested heavily in their attack in the summer transfer window and even signed Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig for a considerable fee after Rasmus Hojlund endured a disappointing 2024/25 season at Old Trafford.
However, Sesko has struggled to live up to expectations in the early part of the ongoing campaign, and as a result, the Red Devils continue to be linked with several strikers. One of the biggest names being mentioned is Harry Kane.
The former Tottenham striker has continued scoring consistently during his stint at Bayern Munich, and with United possibly looking for a proven goalscorer, his name keeps resurfacing. The 32-year-old has already scored 108 goals and provided 29 assists in 113 appearances for the German champions.
What did Simpson say?

The whispers of a possible return to England have been growing for some time, and the former United defender Danny Simpson kept the idea of the club making a move in 2026 alive.
Simpson believes that United would suit the world-class striker more than any other Premier League side. He also stated that Kane’s presence would reduce pressure on the young Sesko.
“I don’t know where else he could go, if I’m honest.”
“He can’t go to City, he can’t go to Arsenal, and I can’t see him turning Manchester United down.”
“He can come back, chase down the Premier League goals record, and lead United’s line. I’d love to see it, I said it when he was leaving Tottenham. It’s a good fit. If that option is there, I’d 100% go for it.”
“He could help Šeško as well.”
“He’d learn from Kane without the pressure of playing every single game. Harry’s already won trophies at Bayern, now he could come back and become a legend here, like when Robin van Persie came in and fired United to the title.”

Should United make the move for Harry Kane?
There is no doubt about the quality the Englishman possesses. Kane offers outstanding versatility, combining elite goalscoring traits with exceptional playmaking ability.
He provides deep link-up play, drawing defenders out of position to create space for wingers and midfielders, while still arriving in the box to finish chances. His vision and passing range allow him to function as a creative number 10 from a centre-forward position.
Kane is most effective in systems such as a 4-2-3-1 or a fluid attacking setup that suits his dual threat. He thrives when surrounded by fast, dynamic attackers who can exploit the space he creates by dropping deep. This allows him to both initiate and finish attacks.
There is little doubt that Kane would like a return to England, and he will surely have an eye on breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record. However, given his current form, he will not come cheap in the summer of 2026, even with his contract running until 2027.
Moreover, if he does return to England, he may choose a club currently in better shape than the Red Devils. United have already invested heavily in Sesko, and spending massively again on Kane may not be wise when other areas of the squad require strengthening. The club is targeting midfield reinforcements such as Elliot Anderson, among others. Therefore, a move for Kane may not be the most practical option right now.
