Benjamin Sesko scored his first goal for Manchester United at Old Trafford
The atmosphere at Old Trafford has a unique magic, and few players have embodied it as perfectly as Benjamin Sesko against Sunderland. The young Slovenian forward finally opened his account at home, scoring his first goal in front of the Manchester United faithful in a 2-0 victory over Sunderland. The match felt like a turning point for Sesko personally and for a team desperate to turn things around after a shaky start under Ruben Amorim in 2025/26.
The young Slovenian said scoring at Old Trafford was “a dream come true” and that the crowd’s energy inspired him from start to finish. He acknowledged that the Premier League is more physical than the Bundesliga but said he was improving with every training session and match. The 21-year-old scored in the 31st minute after a flick-on from a long throw, and the goal showed he is growing in stature in United’s system. It also lifted the team’s spirits after a run of inconsistent results.
“This [scoring at Old Trafford] has been the moment I’ve dreamed about as a kid, because the atmosphere here is unbelievable. Not just after the goal, but after every tackle as well. It’s a dream come true, I’m happy we won,” he said.
“There are some differences [between the Premier League and Bundesliga], the guys are stronger, but I’m getting used to it more and more every training, getting better every single game.”
How will the goal against Sunderland help Benjamin Sesko?
While Sesko’s first Old Trafford goal grabbed attention, the performance meant much more for the team. The 2-0 win, with Mason Mount’s early goal and Senne Lammens’ clean-sheet debut, brought much-needed stability. The team controlled the first half with sharp transitions and quick passing. Their intensity, however, dipped slightly after the break. Even so, the Red Devils managed the game efficiently, which was a welcome change for supporters seeking consistency.

For Sesko, this form may define his early spell at Manchester United. He has already scored his second goal in six matches is finally showing the promise that made him one of Europe’s most wanted young forwards. Sesko is still adapting to the physical pace of English football, but it is clear that the young Slovenian is growing in confidence.
United continue to reshape their squad, with reports suggesting they have shortlisted three right-back options. Meanwhile, Paul Merson has said Oliver Glasner is not the right fit for Manchester United amidst the pressure on Amorim. Amid all this, Sesko’s emergence offers something more tangible. If he keeps this momentum, the 21-year-old could soon lead Amorim’s attack and prove that United’s next great forward is already in their squad.
