Saudi honchos optimistic of landing Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes in 2026
Manchester United had yet another underwhelming display last weekend as they succumbed to Brentford, and there is suddenly a lot of trouble now brewing at Old Trafford. While it still looked like the Manchester Reds could walk back into the game, it was capped by a missed penalty from Bruno Fernandes, and there was no going back from there for Ruben Amorim’s side.
And that penalty miss from Bruno has seen a lot of news coming out which suggests that the 30‑year‑old skipper may not see out his contract at M16. There are reports from Football Insider insists that dealmakers are already optimistic about finding an agreement for Bruno’s exit in 2026.
Saudi retain Bruno interest

There are a lot of things to point towards for these faulty performances from Bruno (which has become an unlikely norm at M16 from the Portuguese of late). We have seen the former Sporting Lisbon maestro being deployed to play a bit deeper in the midfield by Amorim in his current system. And many supporters as well as pundits believe that this deeper role doesn’t quite line up with Fernandes’ strengths. And that has had a direct effect on his outputs of late.
And to add to that pressure to perform, there is a quick and rich way out for Bruno appearing around the corner. Saudi Pro League clubs have been interested in signing the 30-year-old, and they also saw a few of their offers for the Portugal international rejected last summer. But the allure of getting lucrative terms remains come 2026.
It does look like the decision-makers at Carrington are open to letting Bruno leave if decent finances are offered for his signatures.
WAFU Opinion

At this point everything points towards a possible Bruno Fernandes exit next summer. It looks almost inevitable. But that being said, the chiefs at M16 shouldn’t rush into it. Given that there are Saudi Pro Clubs involved, the club can try and negotiate to ensure that they get commendable returns for his sale. And then they also need to ensure that the team doesn’t go too low in the interim that they almost hold no negotiating power.
If Man United are to sell him, they also need to phase Bruno’s exit in a way that they reinvest in a younger attacking-minded midfielder profile. But if that recruitment is mishandled, it would be further damage to the morale within the corridors at Carrington and among the supporters.
Bruno Fernandes isn’t just a player; he has been more of United in the past years than the majority of the other ten on the pitch. And it would sting to lose that figure from the dressing room at M16, but if that were to happen, a lot of other things would need to fall in place as well, and that is upon the ones with the strings on top.
