South American midfield star unlikely to move to Manchester United despite recent links

Manchester United are unlikely to land Real Madrid star Federico Valverde

We saw the decision-makers at Old Trafford scrapping along the last summer transfer window trying to sign a new midfielder at M16. But no move concluded for a new second-phase player, and Premier League heavyweights continue to look at the best of the talents as they look to reinforce the midfield. And this is where we saw Manchester United being linked with a move for Real Madrid’s Uruguayan maestro Federico Valverde.

But according to TEAMtalk, Federico Valverde is not going to be among the names moving to Carrington. The Real Madrid star is said to be seen as completely untouchable by Los Blancos. They consider him as one of the pillars of their new-generation midfield.

Madrid has seen some marquee departures in the second phase in recent seasons. They saw the duo of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos bid adieu in consecutive summers. This has already left the Spanish giants a bit light in central areas. They do have Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni stepping up, but then losing Valverde will leave a huge hole. The 27-year-old is someone who has the capacity to play different roles from the middle of the park (you can play him as a CM or in a box-to-box role, even as a wide mid, and he’d fit in perfectly).

Valverde would have been a dream solution

If we are speaking about this from the Manchester Reds’ point of view, as the heading suggests, Valverde would have been the dream solution. Given that the Premier League heavyweights lack physicality and control in midfield (both of which are key in playing under Ruben Amorim). It would be something the Uruguayan embodies.

And then he also has this ability to dominate transitions and cover multiple positions, which is needed precisely at M16 given how teams find it quite easy to play through that midfield at Old Trafford.

The fact is that United are not in the Champions League this season, and given how the new season has gone, there are no signs that they are re-establishing themselves as regular contenders for major trophies. Players with the capacity of Valverde will maybe look at a move to Old Trafford as a step down if the current trajectory from last week were to continue.

With Valverde out of the picture at the moment, INEOS and the chiefs at M16 will need to pull up more attainable midfield targets that can still add a lot to the current roster.
