Manchester United players ‘surprised’ by Ruben Amorim decision on first team star

Manchester United stars flummoxed by Ruben Amorim’s treatment of Tyrell Malacia

We have seen Ruben Amorim being ruthless on countless occasions in his short time at Carrington. And this ruthless streak continues, given the Portuguese head coach’s treatment of Tyrell Malacia, which has left many inside the club raising eyebrows.

The Dutch full-back has been an inconsistent presence at M16, but given his return from injury, many fans saw him as a steady squad option. Although despite that, he was included in the exodus list at M16. He was alongside the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Marcus Rashford, who Manchester United and the former Sporting Lisbon manager were desperate to sell.

We saw Garnacho and Antony finding new permanent homes, while both Sancho and Rashford left on loan to Barcelona and Aston Villa, respectively. But Malacia was left stranded, given his proposed transfers to Elche and Eyupspor didn’t come through, and he was forced to stay put with his current employers.

Manchester United keep facing issues in offloading Tyrell Malacia

While he has been officially named in United’s Premier League squad, we haven’t seen the Dutchman return to Amorim’s first team. Instead, the under-fire head coach has pushed the 26-year-old to train with the U21s over the past couple of weeks.

And being around the academy, his attitude has started catching people’s attention. The reports by Football Insider describe that his intensity in training is “off the charts”. Coaches are said to be using him as an “example” for the younger players.

And for them, it’s been a shock. Many of these young players are said to be “surprised” that Malacia was ever pushed into the U21s training. The thing is, if we look at the four names above, only Malacia has never been a disruptive influence. He has always carried himself as a professional (on and particularly off the pitch).

WAFU Opinion

Tyrell Malacia never quite found his feet at Manchester United

This is not one of the isolated cases at M16 since Amorim took over. The Portuguese has made it clear that no player in his team is untouchable. And Tyrell Malacia is just one of those who has been hard done by it.

Amorim likes to assert control, and we have seen this with Kobbie Mainoo (to a certain extent) too, as the England international faces uphill battles for minutes.

For Malacia, we think that if he does end up keeping this professionalism, then he may eventually end up getting another chance. But right now, it looks like he has one foot out of Amorim’s plans.
