Iberian candidate added to list as Manchester United ponder £12 million Amorim decision

Marco Silva is the latest addition to potential candidates who can replace Ruben Amorim at Manchester United

There is this huge amount of pressure building on Ruben Amorim. While the win against Chelsea at the weekend did serve as a big release button, his job at the helm at M16 is still under surveillance.

And with a potential sack hanging over his head, United have already started exploring moves for a successor (if there is a decision to sack him). And Fulham manager Marco Silva has now emerged as a potential candidate should the club eventually need a new face at the helm.

Silva has been added to the shout list of possible candidates, as per the recent report from Football Insider. Silva also hails from the same nation as Amorim and has been in charge at Craven Cottage since 2021.

Many admire him for how he has ended up stabilising the ship at Fulham since he took charge of the reins. It is one of the things that United desperately need in this roller coaster of highs and lows at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim is under huge pressure at Manchester United

The proceedings at M16 have been taken under a microscope by supporters as well as the media since the start of the season. But the thing is, despite all this pressure on Amorim, there are massive financial implications of sacking the former Sporting Lisbon manager, which remains a major stumbling block. There are reports which suggest that if United were to sack him, it would end up costing the club somewhere around £12 million. That could possibly be why INEOS (and the decision-makers at United) are a bit reluctant with things.

But as we see, it has not stopped alternative names being lined up at M16. We have seen the names of Andoni Iraola and Oliver Glasner pop up quite a bit in the last weeks. There is also former England manager Gareth Southgate, who remains a long-term favourite of INEOS.

And now, Marco Silva joins the list. As we see, he is another coach who has a proven Premier League track record.

Do you think Ruben Amorim will get to stay at United for a full season?

Right now it does look like Amorim will stay at M16. At least after that win against Chelsea he has some time. But this chatter around sourcing his replacement shows that pressure is building on him. The next few weeks will be critical; he needs to come to the other side with reasonable points.

And while Silva is not an immediate option for United, given his consistent record in the Premier League and ability to create structure, he is certainly someone United would be looking at for the longer term at Old Trafford.
